Semiotic Analysis - The Wire - Double page Spread

→This double page spread is for the magazine 'The Wire' which is a specialist music magazine. By looking at the magazine, it is very simplistic which is very aesthetically pleasing.
→The layout is very sophisticated as the left hand side we have a picture which takes up majority of the page. The other side of the page, there are columns of information. It is positioned on the page very cleverly. The entire layout looks very neat
→The double spread is split into 50:50 - the photograph is very mysterious and intriguing to the audience wants to know who it is and
→The photograph tells the audience that he is significant as he takes up half of the double spread - which tells the reader that he is important
→The quote down the side of the photograph is unusual - this intrigues the reader as it draws the reader to look at that. It isn't positioned with the other information, this means that it could be an important piece of information
→That quote down the side draws the reader in as it is positioned in an unusual place - makes the reader want to look at it
→The photo itself adds more colour to the page as the rest of the double spread is black and white - the colour of the photo contrasts to the rest of the page - again intrigues the readers
→The black and white could represent how the magazine is truthful and has no filter; exposes the real truth
→On the magazine, it states the name of the magazine on each page to identify the magazine
→Half of the magazine is full of text - it is very tect heavy - this could bore the reader as that is not the first thing they would notice
→On the other hand, the text is there to inform the reader about what entails in the magazine and what this specific page is about; gives the reader the information as to why that specific picture is used, for example.
→There is not a lot of exciting images or pops of colour which does make the magazine seem like it is targeted to a specific target group, maybe 25+
→If there was more colour, the magazine double spread could be more interesting and more exciting for people to look at
